Before you ride one of these routes
A route you download here is a record of where a bike race went, sometimes more than ten years ago. It is not a checked, planned or recommended cycling route.
Race routes are ridden on closed roads, at racing speed, with a convoy behind them. Roads change, close and get diverted, a pass open in July is a different proposition in March, and some of these routes cross private roads that were opened only for the race.
Plan the ride yourself, check the roads and the conditions, and ride to what is in front of you. You are responsible for your own safety and for the traffic laws where you are riding. Vertel cannot tell you whether a road is safe today.
Where this came from
Everything on this site was assembled from publicly available sources: published race routes, public results databases, and contemporary published race reports. The stories are written here, in our own words, from those reports — not reproduced from them. Nothing was surveyed, timed or photographed by us, and none of it is official. The map is Mapbox’s, drawn on OpenStreetMap data and credited at the foot of the map itself.
Vertel is an independent project, not affiliated with or endorsed by any race organiser or governing body. Race and jersey names belong to their owners and are used here to identify the editions themselves.
Accuracy
The routes, results and stories here are assembled in good faith, and they will contain errors: a scraped route can miss a stage, a story can compress what happened, a result can be wrong. Nothing here is authoritative, and if you find something wrong the feedback form reaches a real inbox.
What you may do with it
Download the routes and ride them. Share links to races. Use a GPX for your own riding, and for planning rides with other people.
A downloaded route is the line and its elevation as the archives published them, plus one waypoint for each story point, written here. It carries no map data: the cartography you look at on the site is Mapbox’s, drawn on OpenStreetMap data, and none of that is copied into the file you download.
The stories, the writing, the layout and the way this site is put together belong to the operator of Vertel, whose contact details are on the imprint. Ask before republishing them; the answer is usually yes.
Availability
This is an independent project run by one person. It may be slow, it may break, and it may go away. There is no uptime promise here and it would be silly to pretend otherwise.
Liability
Vertel is provided as it is, without warranty of any kind. To the extent the law allows, the operator is not liable for loss or damage arising from using the site, from relying on anything on it, or from riding a route taken from it.
Nothing in these terms limits or excludes liability that cannot be limited or excluded by law — in particular liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, and liability for damage caused intentionally or by gross negligence. If you are a consumer, nothing here affects your statutory rights.
Which law
These terms are governed by Lithuanian law. If you are a consumer in the EU, this does not take away the protection of the mandatory rules of the country you live in, and it does not take away your right to bring proceedings there.
