Level on the Museumplein

The 93rd Giro begins with 8.4 technical kilometres around Amsterdam, starting on the Museumplein between the Van Gogh Museum and the Rijksmuseum. Nobody has a second on anybody yet. For Team Sky, in their first season, it is the opening day of the first Grand Tour they have ever ridden, and the British time trial champion they have built it around has never won a stage of one.

How it was won

  1. 4 km to go

    Lang sets the mark

Sebastian Lang goes early over the technical 8.4 kilometres of Amsterdam and stops the clock at 10:48. It is a time nobody troubles for most of the afternoon.

  2. At the line

    Wiggins takes the first pink

Bradley Wiggins rides the Museumplein course in 10:18 to win the opening test by two seconds. It is his first Grand Tour stage, his first leader's jersey, and the first day of Team Sky's first Grand Tour.
