Level on the Museumplein
The 93rd Giro begins with 8.4 technical kilometres around Amsterdam, starting on the Museumplein between the Van Gogh Museum and the Rijksmuseum. Nobody has a second on anybody yet. For Team Sky, in their first season, it is the opening day of the first Grand Tour they have ever ridden, and the British time trial champion they have built it around has never won a stage of one.

Lang sets the mark
