The road

At the start

Contador in pink after one climb

Etna reordered the whole race in half an hour. Contador leads Siutsou by 59 seconds, Le Mevel by 1:19, Nibali by 1:21 and Scarponi by 1:28, and Weening has gone from the top of the standings altogether. Today is the first day back after the rest day, 160 kilometres up the Adriatic to Teramo with one small climb and a four-percent drag to the line. Cavendish has not won a sprint yet.

   The three are collected

   Beppu, Cazaux and Krivtsov have had the Adriatic road to themselves for 160 kilometres, the Japanese taking the climb at Vasto and the intermediate sprint with a fan briefly riding alongside him. With 11.6 kilometres left the field rolls by.

2. 2At the line

   Teramo

   Millar goes into full time-trial mode at three kilometres and HTC reel him in just before the flamme rouge. Petacchi opens on the four-percent drag to the line, and at 150 metres Mark Cavendish simply arrives past him and wins by lengths, his first sprint of this Giro.
