Garmin have four of the top five
The Verona team time trial has left Garmin-Barracuda holding the race: Ramūnas Navardauskas in pink, Farrar and Hunter at ten seconds, Ryder Hesjedal at eleven, and Taylor Phinney's three days in the maglia rosa ended by thirteen. Today runs almost dead straight from Modena to the Adriatic at Fano, with one categorised climb in the last forty kilometres. A day for Cavendish, if Sky can put him where he needs to be.

De Marchi tries the last climb
The break has been out for a hundred and seventy kilometres and has a minute left. Over the top of the day's last rise Alessandro De Marchi goes alone, and holds the bunch off until twenty kilometres from Fano, which is more than the arithmetic said he could.

Cavendish, from 150 metres
Two hundred kilometres of dead-straight road and a completely lined-out bunch. Thomas launches Cavendish at the flamme rouge and the world champion opens up from a hundred and fifty metres; Goss comes at him, closes, and runs out of road a bike length short.
