The road
At the start
A Giro that starts level in Turin
The corsa rosa is back in its proper May slot, and it opens with eight and a bit kilometres along the Po: the first read on who has arrived in form after a winter of interrupted racing. Egan Bernal starts his first Grand Tour since the back injury that ended his Tour, in a field holding Simon Yates, Almeida, Landa, Vlasov and Nibali. Filippo Ganna is from just down the road.
How it was won
- 4 km to go
Ganna along the Po
The world time trial champion hammers the banks of the river at almost 59kph, faster at every point on the road than anyone who has gone before him.
