At the start
A Hungarian in pink, a sprint to the sea
Attila Valter is the first Hungarian ever to lead the Giro d'Italia, eleven seconds up on Evenepoel and sixteen on Bernal, who put his marker down on San Giacomo. The mountain took a toll off the road too: stage 4 winner Joe Dombrowski and Pavel Sivakov are among four who failed to start yesterday. Today runs back to the Adriatic at Termoli, one small climb and then the sea.

The only classified climb of the day, and the breakaway's serial escapee takes the mountain points and another for the combativity prize he already leads.

Up a technical, dragging finish with seven corners in the last two kilometres, Gaviria goes early and Ewan comes around him with 150 metres left, then kicks a second time to seal it. Lotto Soudal's 30th Giro stage win.
