Bruno Armirail rode into the maglia rosa out of a breakaway and leads Geraint Thomas by 1:41 and Primož Roglič by 1:43 — Ineos handed the jersey away, and Thomas says he is glad of it. Today is 197 kilometres in the hills behind Bergamo on the roads of Il Lombardia, 4,000 metres of climbing, the Roncola Alta last of them. The rain is finally forecast to stay away, and the rest day comes tomorrow.

   Bonifazio jumps

   On the run to Roncola Alta Bonifazio slips a minute clear, the chase content to let him dangle before the climbs bite.

   Roncola Alta

   The big move comes as Frigo and McNulty fly past on the 8% slopes; Healy bridges across and counters so powerfully that McNulty can't respond.

3. 310 km to go

   Frigo's incredible chase

   Dropped by 40 seconds, Marco Frigo hurls himself down the descent and somehow bridges back to the leaders with 10km to go.

   Bergamo

   In a dramatic finale to the 'mini Lombardia' Brandon McNulty out-sprints Healy and Frigo on the flat run into Bergamo.
