At the start

Monte Grappa, twice

The last mountain day, and the only classifications still moving are the ones behind the maglia rosa: Daniel Martínez holds second by 22 seconds from Geraint Thomas, Ben O'Connor is fourth by 42 from Antonio Tiberi, and Tiberi's white jersey lead over Thymen Arensman is 41 seconds. Monte Grappa is climbed twice with barely a valley between, then thirty mostly downhill kilometres to Bassano.

How it was won

1. 1140 km to go

   An 11-man break goes clear

   Steinhauser probes again and again before an eleven-rider move finally sticks, stretching to four minutes ahead of the Monte Grappa's double ascent.

2. 2100 km to go

   First ascent of the Grappa

   The intimidating first climb of the Monte Grappa fragments the break, Janssens, Sánchez and Tonelli leading over as Pellizzari bridges up from the bunch.

3. 336 km to go

   Pellizzari leads over the top

   On the second ascent UAE's pace is acutely painful and the field crumbles, leaving young Pellizzari alone out front with a slender lead.

4. 45 km to go

   Pogačar's race-sealing attack

   With 5.4km left on the Grappa Pogačar launches a blistering move that leaves the GC group almost stationary, Thomas already shed and the podium reshuffling behind.

5. 5At the line

   Solo to overall glory

   Pogačar catches and passes Pellizzari, crests alone and descends to a 2:07 stage win that all but engraves his name on the maglia rosa.
