The road

At the start

Sky look human, and the race goes north

Garmin tore Sky apart on the first climb on Sunday; Porte lost eighteen minutes and Froome rode most of the Pyrenees with nobody. He still leads Valverde by 1:25 and Contador by 1:51. Vasil Kiryienka missed the time cut. After the rest day the Tour restarts in Brittany: a hundred and ninety-six flat kilometres to Saint-Malo, into a headwind, with crosswind promised at the end.

How it was won

1. 16 km to go

   Crosswinds, nerves and a catch at six

   The last twenty kilometres into Saint-Malo turn from headwind to crosswind and every general classification rider in the race moves to the front. Flecha gets tangled at a roundabout; Talansky goes down and has to chase furiously. The break is finally caught with six kilometres left.

2. 2At the line

   Kittel again, and Veelers on the floor

   Greipel opens too early and Marcel Kittel comes over the top of him. Behind, Cavendish shoulders Tom Veelers aside as he launches, and it is the Argos man alone who ends up sliding across the road in the middle of a bunch sprint.
