The road
At the start
Nibali in yellow, London ahead
Vincenzo Nibali took two seconds on a nondescript rise in a Sheffield suburb and turned them into the maillot jaune; Peter Sagan, Greg Van Avermaet, Chris Froome and Alberto Contador are all sitting at exactly that gap. Today is the last British day and the flattest of the three: 155 kilometres from Cambridge through Stratford and along the Thames to a finish on The Mall.

With 28km left it is a spectator, not the rain, that brings Andy Schleck, Simon Gerrans and Ted King down on the outskirts of the city. All three remount.

In the shadow of Buckingham Palace, Veelers swings off with 200 metres to run and Kittel leads from the front, daring anyone to come around. Sagan sits on his wheel and cannot take a single inch back.
