A searing hot road across the Tarn and a proper test of the legs at the sprint: Greipel beats Degenkolb and Cavendish for nine points and knocks Sagan off the top of the virtual green jersey by one.

Péraud goes down in the middle of the bunch
De Gendt takes the day's first climb, and behind him Jean-Christophe Péraud brings himself down in the heart of the peloton and splits it. Bloodied, his kit in tatters, he shuttles back and forth from the medical car and rejoins wrapped in bandages.
15 km to go
La Primaube shreds the break
Fifteen kilometres out, on the uncategorised drag through Alexandre Geniez's home village, De Gendt lifts the pace. Périchon goes, then Geniez himself, and only three are left over the top with a minute in hand.
At the line
Caught in sight of the line
De Gendt, Kelderman and Gautier fight to the very last metres and are swallowed with the banner in view. Greg Van Avermaet then powers up the ramp into Rodez and holds off Sagan for his first Tour stage.
