At the start

Ciccone in yellow by six seconds

Dylan Teuns won on the gravel and Giulio Ciccone came out of the breakaway wearing yellow, six seconds up on Alaphilippe — from forty-second overall the morning before. Behind them the real order is finally legible: Thomas at forty-nine seconds, Bernal at fifty-three, Pinot at fifty-eight. Today is the longest stage of the race, 230 kilometres to Chalon-sur-Saône, with nothing after halfway to stop a sprint.

   A GC scare

   After the intermediate sprint a flurry of accelerations catches Dan Martin and Quintana napping; the pair are briefly distanced by 40 seconds before the bunch eases and lets them back.

2. 2At the line

   Groenewegen at last

   In a messy sprint into Chalon-sur-Saône, Viviani punctures at 800m and Dylan Groenewegen — forced to go long — holds off Ewan and Sagan for his first win of the race.
