The road

At the start

36 kilometres, 57 seconds, one mountain

This is the day the whole Tour has been pointed at: 36.2 kilometres against the clock out of Lure, flat for thirty of them and then straight up La Planche des Belles Filles. Primož Roglič starts last, 57 seconds ahead of Tadej Pogačar, riding the discipline he came from. López is third at 1:27, Richie Porte fourth at 3:06 with the podium in sight. Three men did not start today.

How it was won

1. 122 km to go

   The fast men set the marks

   On the 14km of flat opening the time trial, the specialists lay down benchmarks - Cavagna first under the hour, then Van Aert blazing the fastest time of all through the checkpoints.

2. 26 km to go

   Roglič already losing

   At the foot of La Planche des Belles Filles Roglič passes the second check 36 seconds down on Pogačar's blistering ride - the yellow jersey is wobbling before the climb even starts.

3. 35 km to go

   Roglič crumbles

   After an awkward bike change 5.2km from the top, Roglič gets going again but visibly falls apart, the time gap ticking from green into deep red as Pogačar flies up the mountain.

4. 43 km to go

   The impossible unfolds

   At the final checkpoint, 2.7km from the summit, Pogačar has caught the ailing López on the road and stands a mammoth 1:22 up on Roglič - the maillot jaune is changing hands against the clock.

5. 5At the line

   Pogačar steals the Tour

   Pogačar wins atop La Planche des Belles Filles by 1:56 and rips the yellow jersey from Roglič on the penultimate day - a 21-year-old's ride for the ages, one of the greatest shocks the Tour has ever seen.
