At the start

Roglič and Van der Poel go home

The rest day has thinned this race brutally. Primož Roglič, who never really got up after stage 3, and Mathieu van der Poel, who wore yellow for six days, both climb off; seven more were swept up outside the time limit at Tignes. Pogačar leads Ben O'Connor by 2:01 and everyone else by over five minutes. Today ends at Valence, through wind-raked country.

   Colbrelli chips away at green

   On the hilltop intermediate sprint Colbrelli takes fifteen points ahead of Matthews, Philipsen and Sagan while Cavendish sits in the bunch. The green jersey lead is down to twenty-five points.

2. 217 km to go

   The wind bites, briefly

   QuickStep push into the crosswinds with the world champion himself on the front and force a split, then a more decisive one. Every sprinter and every GC rider makes the front fifty; Colbrelli punctures at the worst possible moment and has to chase back.

3. 3At the line

   Textbook, in Valence

   Mørkøv drops Cavendish at 150 metres round the final bend and, into a headwind, Van Aert and Philipsen close on either side without ever getting past. A 33rd Tour stage win, by a wheel.
