Thirty-one kilometres through the vineyards from Libourne to Saint-Émilion, and the only live question the Tour has left: Jonas Vingegaard is second at 5:45, Richard Carapaz third at 5:51, six seconds apart with a flat time trial to settle it. Pogačar's yellow has not been in doubt for a fortnight. O'Connor defends fourth from Kelderman by half a minute.

   Van Aert is three seconds up on Küng at seven kilometres, with Asgreen having already set the early benchmark.

2. 211 km to go

   The gap opens

   By 20.1km the Belgian is 24 seconds clear. Küng, who paced the first half aggressively, is about to pay for it across the closing ten.

3. 3At the line

   Saint-Émilion

   Van Aert stops the clock at 35:53, fastest at every check. Ten days after winning on Mont Ventoux he wins the time trial — a bunch sprint, a mountain, and a race against the clock in a single Tour.
