The road

At the start

Paris, and the first Dane since 1996

Jonas Vingegaard will ride into Paris as the winner of the Tour de France, 3:34 clear of Tadej Pogačar with Geraint Thomas third at 8:13; he holds the mountains jersey too, and Wout van Aert has green already sealed. The Tour de France Femmes takes the Champs-Élysées before the men arrive. For them, 115 kilometres out of La Défense and then eight laps of the cobbled circuit.

How it was won

1. 140 km to go

   Onto the Champs-Elysees

   The procession ends and the eight laps of the cobbled circuit begin. Break after break emerges and collapses — Martínez, Bissegger, Jorgenson and Tratnik build the most dangerous of them before it implodes.

2. 27 km to go

   The last move dies

   Schachmann and Rutsch, part of the five-man group that briefly stuck, are reeled in as the bell sounds. Pogačar accelerates once more anyway, with Ganna and Thomas answering on the far side of the road — a final reminder of who spent this Tour attacking.

3. 3At the line

   Philipsen wins, Vingegaard is crowned

   Groenewegen drives up the left of the rising avenue but Philipsen steals it from him for his second stage of the race. Behind, Jonas Vingegaard rolls in as champion of the Tour de France — a rider who arrived as a domestique and leaves having taken the race apart in the Alps.
