At the start

Saint-Amand-Montrond, and 2013

Anthony Turgis won on the gravel and the top of the classification came through untouched: Pogačar 33 seconds up on Evenepoel, 1:15 on Vingegaard, 1:36 on Roglič. The second week opens with 186 flat kilometres from Orléans to Saint-Amand-Montrond — the town where the wind tore the 2013 Tour apart. There are three changes of direction in the last thirty kilometres, and everybody in the race has read the history.

   The wind never comes

   The peloton tenses for echelons at the Issoudun turn, speeds touching 70kph, but the flags hang limp and the day slides back into a near rest-day roll toward Saint-Amand-Montrond.

2. 2At the line

   Philipsen back to winning ways

   A textbook Van der Poel lead-out fires Philipsen clear for a dominant win, the difference in raw power obvious as he opens a clear gap on Girmay.
