- Won by Jasper Philipsen
The road
At the start
The Tour begins in French Flanders
Lille, and everything is level for the last time. Tadej Pogačar comes for a fourth yellow jersey and beat Jonas Vingegaard by a distance at the Dauphiné; Remco Evenepoel completes the podium everyone has already written. The opening day is flat and 185 kilometres long, but it runs through open, hedgeless country where the wind has decided Tours before.
How it was won
- 20 km to go
Crosswind chaos
Inside the final 20km the wind turns the bunch sideways. UAE and Visma drive echelons across the exposed roads of French Flanders, and Remco Evenepoel is caught on the wrong side, bleeding time before his Tour has really begun.

Philipsen takes first yellow
Jasper Philipsen is launched perfectly by Mathieu van der Poel and powers clear in Lille to win the opening stage and pull on the first yellow jersey of the 2025 Tour.
