At the start

The Grand Départ, against the clock

Barcelona, the furthest south the Tour has ever started, and everything is level for the last time. Tadej Pogačar comes for a fifth yellow jersey and the record that goes with it; Jonas Vingegaard arrives off a Giro d'Italia won at a canter. Nineteen kilometres as a team, flat along the water and then up the Côte de Montjuïc — and Netcompany Ineos have Filippo Ganna to spoil it.

How it was won

  1. 7 km to go

    Ineos lose Vauquelin

Netcompany Ineos lead every checkpoint until Vauquelin punctures with 7km to go and Bernal is dropped. Reduced but flying, they send Ganna up the Côte de Montjuïc to set the fastest time by 31 seconds.

  2. At the line

    Vingegaard flies to yellow

Last down the ramp, Visma-Lease a Bike keep four together and launch Vingegaard off Piganzoli's final pull. The Dane storms the Olympic Stadium climb seven seconds quicker than Ganna — a stage win in the reborn team time trial and the first maillot jaune.
