At the start

Flat to Nevers, first time since 2003

Le Lioran cost Vingegaard another minute — he is 3:36 down now, Evenepoel has moved to third and Del Toro has slipped to seventh — and it cost Pinarello-Q36.5 a rider: Chris Harper, down on the descent of the Puy Mary, does not start. The road north from Vichy to Nevers is flat and the Tour has not finished there since Petacchi won in 2003. Merlier needs eighty points to trouble Pedersen's green.

   Alaphilippe cracks on the last hill

   The final categorised climb is barely 1.4km long and it is enough: Alaphilippe is dropped from the break as Charmig takes the point again, and the three survivors, oddly, ride faster without him.

2. 232 km to go

   Crash in the bottle zone

   In a feed-zone scrum at the back of the bunch, Georg Zimmermann, Abel Balderstone and Ben O'Connor go down, Zimmermann worst of all before eventually getting going again.

3. 3At the line

   Wærenskjold holds off the world

   The lead-outs disintegrate through the sweeping last bend and Cees Bol flies off the front with a few hundred metres left. Wærenskjold gambles everything on jumping across — far too much road, surely — and somehow holds off Kooij, Philipsen and Fretin for Uno-X's day of days in Nevers.
