At the start

The only time trial, without Vingegaard

The Tour is a different race this morning. Jonas Vingegaard crashed out on the road to Solaison, and Evenepoel has inherited second at five minutes, with Del Toro third and back in white. Tim Merlier is gone too. The only individual test against the clock runs 26 kilometres along Lake Léman from Évian to Thonon, over the Côte de Larringes early — and the time trial world champion will not get a better chance.

   Tarling sets the mark

   The first true specialist down the ramp, Josh Tarling flies the opening kilometres out of Évian and stops the clock at 34:21 — a time that owns the hot seat for most of the afternoon.

2. 216 km to go

   Fifty-six seconds on one climb

   The Côte de Larringes is where the stage is won: Evenepoel goes 56 seconds faster to the top than anyone who has started before him, and 14 seconds faster than Pogačar, who follows him onto the course.

3. 3At the line

   32:19 in Thonon-les-Bains

   The time trial world champion never lets up on the run down to the lake, arriving in 32:19 — over a minute clear of Skjelmose — for back-to-back stage wins and his third Tour time trial.
