The road

At the start

Into the Pyrenees, past a wildfire

Vingegaard holds yellow by six seconds after UAE Team Emirates took first and second in Barcelona; Evenepoel is third at fifteen seconds, Del Toro fourth at sixteen. The longest day so far climbs out of Granollers into the Pyrenees for the race's first summit finish, at Les Angles. The last forty kilometres will be strangely quiet: spectators have been warned off the road by a wildfire burning nearby.

How it was won

1. 1171 km to go

   De Lie cracks early

   On the day's first climb, the Côte de Sant Feliu de Codines, Arnaud De Lie is out the back for a second straight day and soon abandons, and GC hope Cian Uijtdebroeks is in trouble too — yet up front every attack is chased down and nothing can get clear.

2. 293 km to go

   Pedersen grabs green, the break goes

   Roughly halfway, Mads Pedersen takes the intermediate sprint at Campdevánol to stake his claim on green — and only now, with all the real climbing still to come, does a 20-rider move finally wrench itself clear.

3. 365 km to go

   Col de Toses: UAE mass up

   On the long Col de Toses, the Tour's first Pyrenean Cat. 1, Alex Baudin snatches the mountain points, but UAE Team Emirates are already crowding the front and the break's lead starts to tumble as the race crosses into France.

4. 423 km to go

   The break is swept up

   Over the Col du Calvaire the last escapees are reeled in, and UAE reach the foot of the closing haul with the whole race back together and Pogačar's train fully assembled.

5. 55 km to go

   Del Toro rips it apart

   On the short, punchy ramp to Les Angles, Isaac del Toro drives a devastatingly long acceleration that shells the group to a handful, the stage-2 winner burying himself on the front until barely 300 metres remain.

6. 6At the line

   Pogačar's unanswerable sprint

   Off the back of Del Toro's lead-out, 300 metres from the summit, the world champion unleashes a ferocious, drawn-out sprint — one sustained surge nobody can match. Vingegaard is left rooted to the spot as Pogačar rides clear.

7. 7At the line

   Into yellow at Les Angles

   Pogačar crosses two seconds up on Vingegaard with Carapaz third, and the bonus seconds are just enough to take the world champion into the yellow jersey for the first time this Tour, on its first summit finish.
