At the start

As flat as this Vuelta gets

Rodríguez was second to Gilbert on Montjuïc and pushed Froome to fifty-three seconds, Contador past the minute. John Gadret abandoned on the rest day. Today is the easiest day of the race: one small climb after thirty kilometres, then the sea all the way to Sanxenxo — and the only time trial of the Vuelta waiting tomorrow.

   Six forty-two, and then nothing

   Palomares and Aramendia had almost seven minutes and are caught as they start the finishing circuit at Sanxenxo, having crossed the line once already. Degenkolb has spent the day sprinting for single points at the intermediate sprints to get his green jersey back.

2. 2At the line

   Degenkolb goes far too early, and wins

   He grabs Bennati's wheel under the flamme rouge and opens up with a very long way still to ride. Nacer Bouhanni almost has him — for a hundred metres it looks certain — and then the Frenchman cracks and the German pulls away for his fourth stage of the race.
