A twenty-year-old neo-pro named Tadej Pogačar rode away from all of them at Cortals d'Encamp, and out of the wreckage Nairo Quintana came away in red — six seconds over Roglič, seventeen over López, twenty over Valverde. The race crosses into France for the longest time trial of the Grand Tour season: 36 kilometres from Jurançon to Pau, climbing at both ends, twelve flat in the middle for the specialists.
