At the start

No Angliru, but 17km of La Cubilla

Sepp Kuss got the nod from the Jumbo-Visma car and rode away for the biggest win of his life while his leader gave up nothing behind: Roglič is 2:25 up on Valverde, 3:42 on Pogačar, 3:59 on López, five minutes on Quintana. Escartín has passed over the Angliru today for something new — the San Lorenzo, the Cobertoria, and then 17.8 kilometres of La Cubilla, long and even rather than savage.

How it was won

  1. 55 km to go

    The break holds five minutes

Over the Alto de la Cobertoria the nineteen-man break stretches its lead past five minutes; Bouchard collects mountains points as Tony Martin drags the peloton along for Roglič.

  2. 18 km to go

    Fuglsang lights the Cubilla

On the misty 17km haul of the Alto de la Cubilla, Fuglsang kicks; Luis León Sánchez sacrifices himself with a long turn, and the Dane forces the selection.

  3. 5 km to go

    Astana detonate the GC group

Halfway up the climb Quintana is dropped before Astana even attack; López then launches with 4km to go and Pogačar and Roglič cover, an elite six briefly clear.

  4. At the line

    Fuglsang's first Grand Tour stage

Fuglsang refuses to fade, holding fifteen seconds over Geoghegan Hart to solo his maiden Grand Tour win; Roglič extends again while Quintana loses more than two minutes.
