The road
At the start
Five seconds, and a sprinters' day
Covadonga did not settle it either: Ben O'Connor came back on the valley road and holds red by five seconds from Primož Roglič. Wout van Aert is gone, into the hillside on a wet descent with a wrecked knee, and Kaden Groves inherits a green jersey he leads 182 points to 95. Today is the fast men's last chance — 141 kilometres to Santander, two category 2 climbs in the middle, flat roads to the coast after them.
How it was won
- 3 km to go
The break caught inside 3km
A brave four-man move survives the rain-soaked mid-stage climbs and is only reeled in inside the final three kilometres into Santander.
- At the line
Groves' third win
After late attacks force Alpecin to leave it late, Groves surges down the left for a third sprint win, sealing the green jersey he inherited when Van Aert crashed out.
