At the start

Forty degrees, and a road to Seville

Primož Roglič answered the question at Villuercas, pipping Lennert Van Eetvelt on the line and taking red: João Almeida is eight seconds down, Enric Mas thirty-two. Today is 169 flat kilometres into Andalusia and downtown Seville in the same forty-degree heat, with one bonus sprint at La Algaba fifteen kilometres out. Van Aert leads Groves 111 points to 105, and they have already finished one-two twice.

   The break is caught

   Two early escapees are hauled back with 40km to go, the sprint teams setting up for the expected bunch kick into a scorching Seville.

2. 2At the line

   Bittner surprises Van Aert

   Van Aert launches long and throws his bike a fraction early, and Pavel Bittner comes back at him on the Guadalquivir straight to snatch a first Grand Tour win by a whisker.
