1. 167 km to go

   The move on Salmon Hill

   Three and a half laps from home, Marco Haller cracks the race open on Salmon Hill and Wellens bridges across; a strong octet forms and forces France and Poland to chase.

2. 225 km to go

   Caught with 25km to go

   Lars Boom drills the front of the Norway-charged bunch and the last survivors of the day's break are reeled in, setting up a frantic finale on the Bergen circuit.

3. 36 km to go

   Alaphilippe's vicious attack

   A crash litters the foot of the final Salmon Hill, but up front Julian Alaphilippe rips clear over the top. Only Gianni Moscon can follow, and the young pair swoop down the far side looking like winners.

4. 45 km to go

   Alone on the cobbles

   On the cobbled ramp with 4.5km to go, Alaphilippe senses Moscon fading and accelerates away alone, certain this is the move that will drape him in rainbow.

5. 51 km to go

   Reeled in before the kilometre

   The swelling chase claws Alaphilippe back just before the flamme rouge, and a group of 26 thunders together toward the line in Bergen.

6. 6At the line

   Sagan's historic third

   Kristoff launches his sprint and looks certain of home glory, only for Peter Sagan to explode off the final corner, throw his bike, and snatch the title by a hair — an unprecedented third consecutive world championship.
