Dumoulin in pink by a hundredth

Arnhem, and Tom Dumoulin holds the first maglia rosa by one hundredth of a second over Primož Roglič — the narrowest margin there is, on a day that ought not to touch it. A hundred and eighty-seven flat kilometres to Nijmegen, with the crosswinds every team has been fearing all week, and the race's first categorised climb, all 1.1 kilometres of it, at Berg en Dal. Marcel Kittel sits fifth, eleven seconds back.

   The Giro's first climb

   The race loops back to Berg en Dal for the first categorised climb of the three weeks — 1.1km with ramps over 11%. The three escapees line up almost abreast before Omar Fraile jumps for the points and the first blue jersey.

2. 2At the line

   Kittel dominant in Nijmegen

   On a flat Dutch day with none of the feared wind, Marcel Kittel edges to the front with 1.5km left, launches off Démare's wheel and wins by several metres.
