At the start

One second, and the last Dutch day

Nijmegen, and the Giro's Dutch weekend ends this afternoon. Tom Dumoulin still leads, but yesterday's stage win and its bonus have pulled Marcel Kittel to within a single second of pink. Omar Fraile carries the first blue jersey off Berg en Dal. One climb today, the Posbank, then a finishing lap back in Arnhem and a flight to Italy — and the wind off the river is the only thing that can complicate any of it.

   Tjallingii takes the blue jersey

   Maarten Tjallingii, in the break for the second day running, leads over the Posbank — the only climb of the day — and rides himself into the mountains jersey. A crosswind has already split the peloton once behind him, and as the bunch comes through Arnaud Démare hits the deck and needs two teammates to tow him back.

2. 2At the line

   Van Zyl caught at 1,700 metres

   Johann van Zyl goes alone with twelve kilometres left and very nearly steals the Giro from the sprinters, a minute clear onto the finishing lap in Arnhem. Etixx reel him in with 1,700 metres to run, and Marcel Kittel opens up from 200 metres out and is celebrating long before Viviani reaches the line. Two stages, two wins, and the maglia rosa goes to Italy with him.
