At the start

Yates holds, Froome climbs to fifth

The Zoncolan took six seconds off Simon Yates and lifted Chris Froome from twelfth to fifth at 3:10. Yates still leads Tom Dumoulin by 1:24 and Domenico Pozzovivo by 1:37. Today is 177 kilometres and 4,100 metres through the Dolomites — the Mauria, the Tre Croci, Sant'Antonio, and then a nasty little wall at Costalissoio fifteen kilometres from Sappada. 1. 1107 km to go

   A 25-man break

   After a busy, fast start a large group of 25 finally clips clear in the Dolomites, Ciccone and Visconti among the aggressors.

2. 265 km to go

   Woods lights the Tre Croci

   EF set up a long-range Michael Woods attack on the Passo Tre Croci, pulling the break's advantage down towards a minute.

3. 329 km to go

   Aru cracks on Sant'Antonio

   Fabio Aru is an early GC casualty, dropping 29km from home on the Passo di Sant'Antonio as the mountains bite.

4. 415 km to go

   Yates attacks the Costalissoio

   On the irregular ramps of the Costalissoio, fifteen kilometres from home, Yates accelerates and moments later goes solo, Froome cracking and slipping over a minute behind.

5. 5At the line

   Yates soloes into Sappada

   Yates stretches clear on the final rise for his third stage win in pink — the first man since Simoni in 2003 to do so — as the chase dithers behind.
