The road
At the start
Agrigento, another climb to the line
Rohan Dennis keeps pink by a second from Tom Dumoulin, with Simon Yates third at seventeen and Tim Wellens up to fourth off yesterday's win in Caltagirone. Today is short — 153 kilometres from Agrigento through the hills of western Sicily — with five categorised bumps in the closing sixty and a sharp rise to the line at Santa Ninfa. A day nobody wins the Giro on.
How it was won
- 41 km to go
The break climbs on
Through Partanna the four leaders hold their advantage as the profile turns hillier and the peloton begins to wind up for an aggressive finale.
- 6 km to go
López off the road
With 5.5km to go Miguel Ángel López slides off the road into the grass — a soft landing, but he never sees his GC rivals again, hemorrhaging time.
- At the line
Battaglin wins in Santa Ninfa
After the sharp climb to the line strings out the favourites, Enrico Battaglin times his sprint best to win in Santa Ninfa.
