The road
At the start
One more for the fast men
Nothing changed in Modena but the name on the stage: Arnaud Démare took the first Giro victory of his career, and the classification is exactly as it was, Conti in pink with Roglič 1:50 behind. Two hundred and twenty-one kilometres from Carpi to Novi Ligure now, with 452 metres of climbing in all of them — the last easy day before this race turns into the Alps.
How it was won
- 25 km to go
The break is shut down
After nearly 200km up the road the three Italian wildcards are swept up with 25km to go, and the sprint and GC teams spread across the road to smother any late move.
