Twelve gone, and Gaviria with them

Conti keeps pink with José Joaquín Rojas at 1:32 and the favourites still content to wait. Fernando Gaviria did not finish yesterday, and neither did Laurens De Plus or Sacha Modolo — twelve riders out in a week. That leaves Ackermann, Viviani and Ewan to settle the sprints, and there should be one today: 239 kilometres up the Adriatic to Pesaro, three small climbs late and a tricky drop to the line.

   Ciccone's late fling

   Over the cat-4 Gabicce Monte with 24km to go, Ciccone snatches the KOM points and slips away with two others, but the sprinters' teams have too much invested to let it live.

2. 2At the line

   Ewan wins in Pesaro

   On the tricky drop into Pesaro Bora launch Ackermann, but Caleb Ewan surfs the German's wheel and slingshots past in the closing metres for his second Giro stage.
