The road
At the start
A Giro in October, starting in Palermo
The Giro is the last Grand Tour of this upside-down season instead of the first — no melting snow, no poppies, and a Grande Partenza moved from Budapest to Sicily when the pandemic took Hungary away. Fifteen kilometres along the Palermo seafront and up to the cathedral at Monreale open it. Geraint Thomas, Simon Yates, Vincenzo Nibali and Steven Kruijswijk are here, and so is the new world time trial champion.
