The road
At the start
Across the Po plain to Monselice
Jhonatan Narváez won in Cesenatico and the overall is exactly where it was: Almeida, Kelderman at 34 seconds, Bilbao at 43. Today crosses the pan-flat Po plain to Monselice, where a forty-kilometre finishing circuit throws in two short climbs — Roccolo, and then Calaone sixteen kilometres out. It could be the sprinters' last chance until the very end of the race, if they can get over them.
How it was won
- 16 km to go
Selection on Calaone
The short, sharp climb of Calaone splinters the front group, GC men and puncheurs alike scrambling over the top toward Monselice.
- 4 km to go
A reduced group closes in
A small elite group, maglia rosa Almeida among them, races the final kilometres together, the stage set for an uphill dash to the line.
- At the line
Ulissi throws for it
Diego Ulissi flings his bike across the line in Monselice to beat race leader Joao Almeida and Patrick Konrad, taking his second win of the Giro.
