Almeida carries 40 seconds over Wilco Kelderman into the second time trial of this Giro, and most people expect him to carry more out of it: 34 kilometres through the Prosecco vineyards from Conegliano to Valdobbiadene, with the Muro di Ca' del Poggio, briefly 19%, inside the first six. Giulio Ciccone has gone home. Tomorrow the race reaches the high mountains for the first time.

   On the rolling 34km test to Valdobbiadene, Filippo Ganna is again in a class of his own, blasting through the checkpoints faster than anyone.

   Ganna wins the time trial by 26 seconds over teammate Rohan Dennis, a third stage of the race, as Almeida defends the maglia rosa against the clock.
