At the start

Kelderman in pink, twelve seconds up

The Stelvio finally broke it open. Wilco Kelderman is in pink, but only just: twelve seconds on his own teammate Jai Hindley, fifteen on Tao Geoghegan Hart. João Almeida, who wore it for fifteen days, is fifth at 2:16. On paper today is the longest stage of the race, 253 kilometres from Morbegno to Asti, at the end of a week of long transfers and cold that has left the peloton in a mood.

How it was won

  1. 104 km to go

    A stage cut short

After a riders' protest over long transfers and brutal weather, the stage is slashed and neutralised for much of its length before racing resumes for a flat run to Asti.

  2. At the line

    Černý survives the chase

Josef Černý attacks the break with 21km to go and just holds off Victor Campenaerts into Asti, a farewell victory for the soon-to-fold CCC team.
