At the start

Level on time, 15.6km to Milan

Jai Hindley and Tao Geoghegan Hart are level on time — every second of three weeks cancelled out. Hindley has the pink jersey because he finished ahead of Geoghegan Hart at Sestriere; no Giro has ever gone into its last day tied like this. Kelderman is third at 1:32. Fifteen and a half flat kilometres into the centre of Milan settle it, one long straight after another.

How it was won

  1. 5 km to go

    Tao pulls ahead

On the flat 15.7km run into Milan, level on time with Hindley at the start, Geoghegan Hart's superior time-trialling tells - 22 seconds up at the checkpoint on the long straights.

  2. 2 km to go

    Ganna wins the stage

Filippo Ganna storms the course for a fourth stage win of his Giro, a fitting bookend to the race he opened in Palermo.

  3. At the line

    Geoghegan Hart wins the Giro

Tao Geoghegan Hart beats Hindley by 39 seconds in Milan to seize overall victory from a dead heat - a first Grand Tour title, and one of the most improbable Giro triumphs ever.
