Into the spur, on the Gargano
Arnaud Démare has won three of the last four and the ciclamino jersey looks settled already. The general classification has not shifted in three days, Almeida at the head of it by 43 seconds. Today the race turns into the Gargano, the spur of Italy's boot: ninety flat kilometres to Manfredonia, then the climb to Monte Sant'Angelo, a kick at La Guardiola and a finishing circuit at Vieste.
How it was won
- 43 km to go
Break splinters on La Guardiola
The six-man breakaway shatters over La Guardiola as Alex Dowsett tests his legs on the day's decisive climb before the run to the coast.
