Nothing has moved for two days: Almeida leads Pello Bilbao by 43 seconds and Wilco Kelderman by 48, and the maglia rosa belongs to a twenty-two-year-old nobody had on their list. Today is the second-shortest road stage of this Giro and the easiest of the lot — down from Matera to the naval port of Taranto, then fifty straight, wide kilometres across the heel to Brindisi, with only the wind to complicate it.
