Matera, after Ganna's mountain
The world time trial champion won a mountain stage yesterday, alone in the rain over the Montescuro, and took the mountains jersey with it. Almeida still leads, Bilbao at 43 seconds, Kelderman at 48. Three more riders climbed off, Luca Wackermann among them. Today was a single stage until Budapest fell through and it became two: rugged early, then downhill to the flatlands and an uphill drag into Matera.

Tension before Matera
