At the start

Naples, Vesuvius, the Amalfi coast

The general classification has not moved: Andreas Leknessund still leads Remco Evenepoel by 28 seconds, with Primož Roglič fifth at 1:12. Four riders have already gone home. Today is a loop out of Naples and back to the same waterfront — east past the foot of Vesuvius, up the Valico di Chiunzi, then down onto the Amalfi coast and back through Sorrento. It looks like a sprint, but the road never lies flat.

   The Giro strikes again

   With 15km to go Roglič needs a bike change after an apparent crash, and moments later Geraint Thomas drops his chain — both scrambling frantically back to the bunch.

   The break is caught

   De Marchi and Clarke, stung by a headwind on the Naples seafront, are swallowed up with just 300 metres to race.

   Mads Pedersen tracks Gaviria's trademark long fling and powers past with intelligence and technique for the win.
