At the start

The time trial Remco came back for

Andreas Leknessund still has pink, but only by eight seconds now over Remco Evenepoel, with Primož Roglič at 38 and Geraint Thomas at 52. Today is 35 flat, untechnical kilometres from Savignano sul Rubicone to Cesena — the stage that helped persuade Evenepoel to ride this Giro at all, and the one where he took a minute out of Roglič at last year's Vuelta. Ganna is gone; rain is forecast.

How it was won

  1. 15 km to go

    Not quite stage 1

Evenepoel is fastest again against the clock on the Cesena course, but the crushing margins of the opening day never materialise.

  2. At the line

    Cesena

Evenepoel wins by a single second over Thomas and takes the pink jersey, but fails to land the knock-out blow — the Giro stays wide open.
