At the start

Ganna's home roads at Verbania

Alec Segaert's late flyer at Novi Ligure changed nothing at the top: Afonso Eulálio leads Jonas Vingegaard by thirty-three seconds. Today is flat across the Po valley for 160 kilometres and then abrupt — the Bieno and the steep Ungiasca inside the last twenty, then a descent to the shore of Lake Maggiore. Filippo Ganna grew up in Verbania and has said this is the one he wants.

How it was won

  1. 16 km to go

    The break fractures on Ungiasca

On the steepest slopes of Ungiasca, 15.8km from the line, Kench attacks and only Bettiol, Valgren and Leknessund can hold his wheel.

  2. 14 km to go

    Bettiol vaults clear

Bettiol chases alone, reels in Leknessund and blasts past around the outside of a bend before the summit, cresting with a decisive gap.

  3. 6 km to go

    A perfect descent

Bettiol rides a flawless downhill to carve out twenty seconds, then holds the advantage across the flat final 6km.

  4. At the line

    Solo into Verbania

Alberto Bettiol soloes home for the ninth win of his career as Stuyven sprints in for third behind him.
