At the start

A reverse Milan-San Remo

Nothing moved at Chiavari: Afonso Eulálio still leads Jonas Vingegaard by twenty-seven seconds. Today runs the Classic backwards, 175 kilometres from Imperia inland and along the Via Aurelia to Novi Ligure, the Colle Giovo and Bric Berton back to back fifty kilometres out. Paul Magnier's points lead is down to twenty over Jhonatan Narváez. Lennert Van Eetvelt does not start.

How it was won

  1. 40 km to go

    Sprinters dropped in the hills

Movistar drive the Colle Giovo and Bric Berton for Aular, and Milan, Magnier and Groenewegen are all distanced — the day's finish will not be a pure bunch sprint.

  2. 13 km to go

    Eulálio grabs bonus seconds

At the Red Bull Kilometre, 13km out, maglia rosa Eulálio jumps clear for six precious bonus seconds ahead of O'Connor and Beloki.

  3. 4 km to go

    Segaert's flyer

The time-trialist Alec Segaert spots his chance 3.5km out, racing clear into Novi Ligure with no reaction from Visma behind.

  4. At the line

    A surprise from the break

Segaert holds off the fast-closing remnants of the reduced peloton to land a surprise solo victory.
