Can Milan win in Milan?
Jonas Vingegaard took the maglia rosa on Pila and leads Afonso Eulálio by 2:26, with Jhonatan Narváez now in ciclamino. Today the Giro exhales: 157 pancake-flat kilometres from Voghera to Milan, four laps of a circuit past the old Vigorelli velodrome, and the city's first Giro finish since 2021. Jonathan Milan has had near-miss after near-miss, and this one carries his name.
How it was won
- 16 km to go
An unprecedented neutralisation
After rider complaints about the unsafe finishing circuit — Vingegaard himself pleading with the commissaires — the last lap is neutralised for GC times. With 16.3km to go the favourites sit up and the hunt for the four leaders is on.
- 5 km to go
The break refuses to die
At blistering speed the quartet cling to a stubborn 57-second lead with 5km left, sprinters' teams flinging even their lead-out men into a desperate chase.
- 1 km to go
Into the last kilometre clear
Twenty seconds still in hand at the flamme rouge — just enough for the four to hesitate before opening the sprint as the peloton bears down.
