The road
At the start
Switzerland, and a fourth summit
Out of the second rest day Jonas Vingegaard leads by 2:26 from Afonso Eulálio, and less than three minutes covers second to seventh. Today is short and mean: 113 kilometres entirely in Ticino, 3,000 metres of climbing, two laps of a circuit and then the Cat.1 haul to Carì, in close to thirty degrees. Vingegaard has won all three summit finishes so far.
How it was won
- 20 km to go
The break's hopes collapse
As the road rises before Carì the gap tumbles and, frustrated once again, Ciccone pulls the pin while Narváez drifts back to the bunch rather than fight a losing cause.
- 10 km to go
Last survivor swept up
Harper, the final man out front, is caught at the foot of the climb with under 10km to go as Red Bull and Visma wind up a savage tempo.
- 8 km to go
Piganzoli's last pull
With 7.7km to go only Piganzoli remains ahead of Vingegaard; the moment he swings off, the Dane launches one acceleration nobody can match.
- 6 km to go
Untouchable again
Within a kilometre Vingegaard's lead is 45 seconds and stretching, the maglia rosa looking utterly beyond reach on another summit finish.
- At the line
A fourth stage at Carì
Vingegaard crosses the line alone for his fourth win of the race, Eulálio sliding from second to fifth overall as the podium reshuffles behind.
