The road

At the start

Piancavallo twice, and third place open

Sepp Kuss took the queen stage and Jai Hindley rode himself onto the podium: Jonas Vingegaard leads by 4:03 from Felix Gall, Hindley third at 5:04 and Thymen Arensman fourth at 5:33. Giulio Ciccone has taken the mountains jersey off the maglia rosa. Today is the last mountain day, 200 kilometres to a circuit that climbs Piancavallo twice — Pantani's mountain.

How it was won

1. 152 km to go

   First time up Piancavallo

   The break crests the first ascent of Piancavallo 52km from home, but Visma immediately set a hard pace, slicing two minutes off the deficit as Vingegaard eyes another win.

2. 212 km to go

   Crescioli's lone bid

   On the final ascent Crescioli strikes out alone with 12km to go, but only a minute covers him and the twenty-strong group as Lemmen turns the screw for Vingegaard.

3. 311 km to go

   Vingegaard goes again

   With 11km to go and Kuss and Piganzoli spent, Vingegaard attacks; Gall lets him go to ride his own tempo as the Dane hunts down the last escapees.

4. 45 km to go

   The battle for the podium

   Hindley and Gee-West pounce on a struggling Arensman and catch Gall with 5km left, before Bernal tows his leader back to freeze the placings with 2km to go.

5. 5At the line

   A fifth win on Piancavallo

   Vingegaard soloes to his fifth stage of the Giro atop Piancavallo, Gall sprinting in for second ahead of Hindley and Gee-West.
