The road

At the start

Blockhaus reordered everything

Blockhaus did what it always does. Jonas Vingegaard won it and stands second overall, 3:17 behind Afonso Eulálio, with Felix Gall at 3:34 and Jai Hindley at 4:25; the Dane takes the mountains jersey too. Today is 156 kilometres up the Adriatic to Fermo, flat until it is not — all four climbs and the 24% Muro del Ferro packed into the last 58.

How it was won

1. 175 km to go

   Echelons catch Vingegaard out

   A ferocious, 50kph battle to form the break splits the peloton with 75km to go — and Vingegaard is on the wrong side, forcing Visma into a frantic chase as UAE's Narváez and Bjerg press on up front.

2. 225 km to go

   Romo's lone bid

   Over the Monterubbiano, Javier Romo attacks the chase group to try to reach the leaders solo, but with 25km to go he is still a minute adrift.

3. 310 km to go

   Narváez slips the leash

   On the Capodarco climb, 10km out, Bjerg and Narváez trade digs on Leknessund; Narváez pulls clear of both and goes solo with just a climb and a half between him and the win.

4. 4At the line

   Solo to Fermo

   On the horribly steep final ramp to Fermo, Narváez fights off a stubborn Leknessund to take his second stage of the race.
